"Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" is one of Green Day's most successful songs. It is the 17th track on Nimrod and the second single released from the album.

Production[edit | edit source]

Although written by lead singer/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong before the release of their 1994 hit album Dookie, the song was not released until two albums later, on Nimrod in 1997. "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" is a very mellow, contemplative acoustic song, which was a vast change from the band's well-known punk sound. However, the song title does reflect some of the edge that one can expect from this band.

Bassist Mike Dirnt later stated that releasing this song was probably the "most punk" thing the band had ever done.[1] The song is more often promoted on the radio as "Time of Your Life", and it became a Billboard chart-topper and an international hit.

"Good Riddance" is the only song from Nimrod that was a crossover success when it was released as a single in December 1997.
