Insomniac is the fourth studio album from Green Day, released on October 10, 1995 through Reprise Records. Though it reached #2 in the US and went 2x Platinum, Insomniac didn't have the sales endurance of its predecessor Dookie, largely due to its slightly darker lyrical tone and more abrasive sound. Though many consider Insomniac to be more consistent than Dookie, it did not feature a well-known hit single akin to "Longview" or "Basket Case", although the combined single "Brain Stew/Jaded" did reach #3 in the US Modern Rock Track charts, and the single "Geek Stink Breath" reached #16 in the UK singles chart.

Insomniac has sold 2,000,000 units in the US and 7,000,000 units worldwide as of August 2006. It is Green Day's third most successful album, following Dookie and American Idiot.

Insomniac had an Australian Tour Pack edition that was released in February 1996. A six-track EP, Australian Tour Souvenir Edition, was included with it, and is the exact same as Live Tracks.
