"The One I Want" is the third song on the 1,000 Hours EP and the 18th song on the 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours compilation album. It was written by both Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt.
Very likely, it's again a song about Billie's feelings towards his best friend's sister.
Song meaning[edit | edit source]
The narrator wrote this song about a girl he fancied a lot, but couldn't be romantically involved with her. She knows how he feels about her but can't or doesn't want to be together with him. This situation makes him worry a lot about his feelings for her and he can't stop thinking about it, trying to find a way to be with her.
