"Private Ale" is the fifth song on Kerplunk. It follows after "Christie Road" and comes before "Dominated Love Slave". "Private Ale" is 2:26 in track length. Drummer Tré Cool came up with the song's title.[1]

"Private Ale" was almost never played prior to the Revolution Radio Tour, where it was almost played regularly. Its only known prior performances were a few times late into the 39/Smooth era, once in the Kerplunk era, and on August 4, 2009, during the 21st Century World Tour.

Notable live performances of "Private Ale" include the House of Blues on April 16, 2015, at 924 Gilman Street on May 17, 2015, and at the iHeart Radio Theater on October 14, 2016.[2]

Song meaning[edit | edit source]

This song is about being obsessed over a girl. The narrator is just walking around, thinking about his future, and suddenly walks by his crush's house. His head starts turning and he wonders if she's alone or if her boyfriend's there.
