Naming[edit | edit source]
The title of the song is taken from a 1976 Saturday Night Live sketch called "Babs' Uvula", in which an uvula specialist (Chevy Chase) made a knock knock joke to his patient Babs (Gilda Radner):
- Knock, knock.
- Who's there?
- Babs' uvula.
- Babs' uvula who?
Song meaning[edit | edit source]
Despite the song's title, "Bab's Uvula Who?" has nothing to do with the "Babs' Uvula" sketch. Similarly, the song "Armatage Shanks" has nothing to do with the toilet company Armitage Shanks. Green Day likely watched the sketch around the time they wrote "Bab's Uvula Who?".
The song is actually about losing it in anger or panic attacks. The narrator is unable to control his temper, and he describes the feeling of his emotions.
