"Stuck with Me" is the third song on Insomniac and the second single released from the album. The single was released on CD and cassette on December 27, 1995.

A live performance of "Stuck with Me" was included on the live EP Foot in Mouth; it was played in Johanneshaov, Stockholm, Sweden on September 2, 1995.

Green Day have played "Stuck with Me" live frequently during their Insomniac Tour in 1995 to 1996, and have rarely played it since.[1]

Studio mix-up[edit | edit source]

While Green Day was recording Insomniac, they were thinking of an appropriate title for this song. They also recorded the song now called "Do Da Da" around the same time, and it was originally called "Stuck with Me". Some time during production there was a studio mix-up, and someone labeled the third track on Insomniac as "Stuck with Me". Upon discovering the error, Green Day felt that "Stuck With Me" was an appropriate title and kept it.[2] Green Day decided to give the nonsensical name "Do Da Da" to the original "Stuck with Me" and release it as a B-side to the "Brain Stew / Jaded" single.

Song meaning[edit | edit source]

The song is about how the narrator is part of the average class and not of the elite, and the lyrics suggest that the narrator has been rejected and oppressed by the elite. Another interpretation of the lyrics suggests that the narrator is being treated like someone from the "elite", whilst he doesn't feel like that in any way. This would fit well in the aftermath of the band's mainstream breakthrough with Dookie, which skyrocked their popularity. At the same time, they got a lot of criticism from the punkrock community for being sellouts. The lines Find another pleasure fucker, drag 'em down to hell could be a reference to the punkrock community picking on the narrator.

Music video[edit | edit source]

The music video was filmed in black and white. One half of the video shows Green Day performing the song (in black and white), and the other half displays some of Winston Smith's animated artwork done for the album. The point of the video is the contrast between the colors.

The music video is featured on the International Supervideos! DVD.
